Urged to Make Last Push on Ballot Initiative Signature Drive
by Sandy Eaton, RN, MNA Member
Colleagues & Friends!
The moment of truth approaches. Thousands of petitions are in the
hands of concerned people from one end of the Commonwealth to the
other. Monumental efforts have been undertaken! The Coalition to
Defend & Improve Health Care must submit 100,000 signatures
to city & town election clerks by November 17th (November 22nd
in Boston) in order to guarantee the 57,100 valid signatures of
registered voters (no more that 25% from any one county) required
by law to place our initiative for fundamental health care reform
and basic rights on next year’s ballot. At last count, only 20,000
signatures have been turned in to our campaign headquarters!
Now is the time to finish up those petitions and
get them in. MNA members are urged to get them to David Schildmeier’s
office at MNA, 340 Turnpike Street, Canton, MA 02021, by Wednesday,
November 10th. All others are urged to get them back to their local
contact person, or directly to the campaign’s headquarters, whose
address & phone number are printed on the front of every petition,
in the same time frame. Our staff & volunteers need to collate
these petitions to get them ready to turn in to the clerks of the
351 cities & towns of Massachusetts.
Fresh petitions will be available for targeted work
at tables set up in malls across the state on Saturday & Sunday,
November 13th & 14th, and for a last-minute blitz in Boston
to wrap it up. Call your local contact or state headquarters in
Cambridge (617.354.1985) to sign up for assignments to malls and
work in Boston. We can do it. We can influence the direction
of history. The time is ripe!
