The Congress on Health Policy Wants Your Ideas
The Congress on Health Policy and Legislation believes practicing
nurses have excellent ideas and solutions to the collective problems
we face in relation to: safe care, safety in the workplace, clinical
problems, patient’s rights and other issues. The Congress
very much wants to collect any ideas you have which may lead to
the basis for filing legislation. Further, the Congress is planning
to reconvene the “Blue Ribbon Legislative Commission” which was
responsible for the generation of the safe care legislative agenda
that is central to the MNA’s Safe Care Campaign. Please
use this “Idea Sheet” to record the specific idea you have.
Also, please check one of the categories for which you think the
idea “fits”. Example: Fran Lacasse and Adeline Healy witnessed
expensive medications being thrown into the toilet in long
term care facilities when the prescribed medication supply could
not be later given to the patient (change in dose, patient expires,
medication reaction…) They felt strongly that medication waste should
be examined and that a procedure to prevent or recycle medications
that are not used, should be considered. The Departrment of Legislations
then successfully drew this issue to the attention of Senator Moore,
Chair of the Health Care Committee who has requested in the state
budget, that a commission be convened to explore solutions to this
problem.
