Call for Applications
2000 MNA Leader Fellows Program

Consider this important opportunity! Inquire about the program. The application deadline is September 10, 1999.

We look to leaders to assist us with thinking out of the box; collaborating more effectively with groups with whom we have not worked closely in the past; and framing the possibilities, issues, and pathways as we move forward. Leaders encourage us to stretch. In the process of reaching, we often learn that we are capable of wonderful things we never believed possible.

These remain turbulent times. Rapid changes in health care and nursing delivery system continue to pose challenges for nurse and nursing. Capitalizing on the opportunities these challenges provide requires leadership. In an effort to identity and nurture leaders among us, the association established the MNA Leaders Fellows Program in 1998. The program includes several sessions designed to explore leadership and change; provide opportunities to self-assess leader competencies; develop and enhance communication and presentation skills; and support the initiation of applied projects in each Leader Fellow's selected area of interest. A stipend of $1,000 is awarded to each Fellow.

In 1998, Ellen Vangel-Brousseau and Linda Watson were named as District 2 Leader Fellows. Kristin Robbins and Jane Thornton were selected from District 5. In 1999, Susan Morris Smith and Theresa Murphy represent District 2 and Marilyn Nalbach and Anne Rundle, District 5.

District 5 will again sponsor two (2) Leader Fellows and District 3 will sponsor one (1) for the 2000 program. District 2 may approve continued sponsorship of Fellows. Possibly, District 1 will join the program pending a favorable vote for an anticipated dues increase at that District’s Annual Meeting in October. District 4 is considering sponsorship of a Fellow in 2001 following implementation of their vote to increase District dues. The MNA Leader Fellows for 2000 will be selected in September 1999 and announced at the MNA/RISNA Convention in Newport, RI in October 1999. Program overviews and application forms are available upon request to the MNA Career Center at 800.882.2056/x739. Seek out one of the 1998 or 1999 MNA Leader Fellows to learn, first hand, about the program. Don’t pass up this exciting opportunity.

The MNA Leader Fellows for 2000 will be selected in September and announced at the MNA/RISNA Convention in October. Applications are due by Setember 10, 1999.
