The decision you have been waiting for from the National Labor Relations Board was issued on Friday, December 8, 2000. As we expected the decision excluded the nurses at the VNA. We have said from the start of the campaign that the decision on the part of the Hospital to include the VNA was a tactic they used to delay the election.

We will gladly assist the nurses at the VNA to organize and have their own contract. Many of the issues facing nurses at the VNA are different from those you face at the Hospital. They deserve to have their own contract as do the nurses at the Hospital. We remain ready to assist them in this endeavor if they choose. You have all worked extremely hard and waited a long time to have this opportunity to vote for a union.

The Hospital will supply a list of eligible nurses (Excelsior List) to us within 7 days; this is required by law. The Hospital may tell you that this information is an invasion of your privacy and the "union" will use this list to visit your home and harass you. This is far from the truth. We do not have a complete list of names or addresses and therefore many nurses have not received information. Once we receive the list from the Hospital we can be assured that we are contacting all the nurses who are eligible to vote. It is important to make an informed decision.
We are hoping to negotiate an election date after the first of the year so it will not interfere with the holidays.

We are enclosing a copy of a portion of the Board's decision that defines who will be eligible to vote. If you have any questions or concerns contact a member of the organizing committee or call the Organizing Department at the MNA,
