MNA Finance Committee seeking new members

The MNA Finance Committee has openings for new members. If you are interested, contact Mary Manning at 800.882.2056, x713, for futher information. The finance committee prepares the association's annual budget and advises the Board of Directors on income, investments and expenditures of funds.  
 

Several openings for Congress on Nursing Practice

The Congress on Nursing Practice has several vacancies. 
Applicants must be a ctively employed in nursing;  demonstrate interest in clinical practice issues; be able to meet commitment of one meeting per month (second Monday of month, 5:30-7:30 p.m.); be knowledgeable about health care environment and its effect on nursing.

Long Term Care Task Force

The MNA Long Term Care Task Force has openings for new members. The taxk force examines problems and identifies strategies concerning long-term care. If interested, Contact Dorothy McCabe, 800.882.2056, x714.   
 

Diversity Committee needs member input

The Diversity Committee is planning to have a booth at the November MNA convention.  If you have ideas or suggestions regarding the content of the booth, please contact Carol Mallia at 800.882.2056, x755 Interested members are invited to attend the Oct. 25 meeting of the Diversity Committee. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m.  
 

Medicare Advocacy Project: A valuable resource to nurses and patients

The Medicare Advocacy Project (MAP) provides advice and/or free legal representation to Medicare beneficiaries through the commonwealth on Medicare and Medicare-related issues. MAP advocates also provide outreach and training on Medicare and Medicare-related issues, including information on action steps designed to affect large numbers of Medicare beneficiaries. 
No question is too small. MAP can be reached at 800-3223-3205.  
 

Joyce Clifford primary nursing subject of national radio show

Joyce Clifford, a world renowned nurse leader whose career stretches over more than 40 years, will be the focus of an hour-long  nationally broadcast radio program on National Public Radio this month.

"When a Heart Rebels: How Healthcare Got a Primary Nurse" will be aired on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. on WGBH 89.7 FM.

Clifford is known for bringing about radical changes in the hospital world and has a unique perspective on the new challenges the profession faces. Her views helped nurses gain greater recognition and authority with respect to patient care and her reforms have been emulated throughout the U.S.   
 

Nurses in the News

Three MNA members will be inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in November. Congratulations to Leda M. McKenry, Gail Lenehan and Barbara Wolfe.

MNA member Barbara Marino has been appointed to the American Nurses Foundation Board of Trustees.

Judy A. Beal, DNSc, RN, has been appointed associate dean and professor of the Simmons College Nursing Programs.

Patricia M. Navin has been appointed to the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Content Expert Panel of the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  
 

MNA's Pat Brigham receives ANCC Leadership Award

MNA Director of Membership Pat Brigham was among seven nurse leaders recognized for their outstanding achievements during the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC's) 10th Anniversary Celebration. Brigham received the Accreditation Leadership Award for her work as chair of the Board on Accreditation during the transition from the ANA to ANCC and for her use of new technology for the delivery of accredited continuing education programs.
