UNIT 7 LEGISLATIVE ALERT -
(updated 4/16/01)

State Employee Health Insurance

UNIT 7 LEGISLATIVE ALERT!

At a press conference on Thursday April 12, 2001, House Speaker Thomas Finneran and House Ways & Means Chairman John Rogers announced that the House budget will maintain state employee health insurance premium at 85% state, 15% employee and fully-fund the state pension fund.  The budget will be released Wednesday, April 18th.

In filing House Bill 1, former Governor Cellucci recommended a 75%, 25% rate.  This increase would result in up to $1,300 a year in increased health insurance costs for Unit 7 employees and their families.  In addition, the Governor's budget underfunded the state's pension fund.

The MNA applauds Speaker Finneran and Chairman Rogers for their efforts in restoring this funding and maintaining the health insurance contribution at 85/15.

We urge MNA Unit 7 members to contact the Speaker's office at 617-722-2500 and Chairman Rogers at 617-722-2990 to thank them for their work on these two initiatives.  In addition, we urge you to contact your state representative to ask that they support maintaining the state employee health insurance premium at 85/15.

You can also email your State Representative. Click here to connect to the Massachusetts General Court web page, where you will find alisting of the Representative's email addresses.
