How do I renew my nursing license?

All questions/issues relating to licensure must be directed to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing at 617.727.9961 or visit their web site at www.state.ma.us/reg

How do I contact a nurse who I have been searching for?

We get asked this question a lot. Please note that the MNA does not have the information to help you find historical documents specific to area nurses. We also can not share personal information about current members with the public.

How do I join the MNA?

To request membership card please contact the Member Services Department at 781.821.4625 or 800.882.2056 x726 or e-mail membership@mnarn.org.

What are the different methods of payments for membership dues?

There are two forms of MNA dues payment:

  • Direct Payment options are annual, installment (3), monthly electronic transfer, or monthly credit card.
  • Payroll options are weekly, bi-weekly, monthly ($52 additional service charge applies).

Do you have reduced prices for membership?

Yes, reduced membership* is available for those who are:

  • Totally disabled.
  • Full time student (Minimum of 12 credits)
  • New graduate from basic nursing education program (within 6 months of graduation).
  • Not employed or retired
  • Age 62 or over and not earning more than Social Security system allows.
  • Special membership* is available for age 62 or over and not employed

*Documentation may be required.

What is the difference between full membership, agency service fee, and state chapter?

  • Agency Fee: If you are employed at a facility where there is a collective bargaining agreement between the employer and the MNA, you are required to either join the MNA or pay an agency fee, as a condition of employment. If you choose to pay the agency fee, you are a member of the collective bargaining unit at that facility, but not a member of MNA as professional associations. Agency fee payers do not have access to any MNA membership benefits. At most facilities, agency fee payers have no voting rights. If you choose full membership dues, you are a member of the collective bargaining unit at that facility, and also a member of MNA. Full members can vote on contract issues, participate on bargaining unit committees and have access to all MNA membership benefits.
  • State Chapter is the membership category for non-nurse Health Care Professionals at MNA bargaining units. State Chapter members are eligible for MNA benefits only, have contract voting rights and can participate on committees of the bargaining unit.

I am going on a leave of absence – how can I pay dues?  Do I need to pay dues? (Also applies to workers compensation, disability and industrial accident).

You must continue to pay dues, but may do so at reduced rates if you are on an unpaid leave.  Contact the Member Services Department at 781.821.4625 or 800.882.2056 or e-mail membership@mnarn.org with your “start & end dates” (if known).  We will adjust your record and bill you at the reduced rate or pay ½ of what is due on your bill and make a notation that you are on LOA (please provide start & end dates).

Why did I get a bill for dues...I thought dues were deducted from my paycheck?

If you choose payroll deduction as your method of dues payments, 12 payments are due for monthly payers, 52 for weekly payers, and 26 for bi-weekly payers.  If you work per diem or miss deductions for any reason, you are responsible for the missed deductions and will be billed directly from MNA.

What happens to my membership if I leave my bargaining unit?

Most employers do not notify the MNA of employee terminations. Unless we hear from you, we will keep your membership active, continue any membership benefits you may be accessing, and bill you directly for dues.

Are my membership dues tax deductible?

A portion of membership dues are tax deductible. Federal law disallows the portion of your membership dues used for lobbying expenses. This portion is published every year in the MNA newsletter, the Massachusetts Nurse, in the March and April editions. Please consult your professional tax preparation advisor for additional questions or call the MNA at 781.821.4625 or 800.882.2056.
