UMass Nurses Conducting 12 Days of Grinchmas Picketing for Safe Staffing and Fair Contract

As the UMass Medical Center nurses’ negotiations for a new contract drag on into the holiday season, and UMass management continues to refuse to heed nurses’ concerns about poor staffing conditions at the facility to protect their patients, the UMMMC nurses have begun daily picketing (Dec. 10 – 21 from 4 to 5 p.m.) — what the nurses are calling the 12 Days of UMass Grinchmas!

The daily picketing will be conducted for one hour each day outside the Memorial campus front entrance, with nurses from both campuses participating. Turnout for the events have been great. We invite any and all community members and other supporters of nurses and safe patient care to join the UMass Grinchmas picket line where we will hold signs and candles, sing some special Grinchmas carols, and show management that we are committed to standing up for safe RN staffing, for safe patient care, and for a fair contract.
