What: Public hearing to protect child behavioral health services at Cambridge Health Alliance
When: May 8 at 2 p.m.
Where: The Macht Auditorium on the CHA campus at 1493 Cambridge St., Cambridge MA
Cambridge Health Alliance has announced plans to eliminate almost all of the beds in its pediatric psych unit, a move that will leave an entire population of children in crisis — those between the ages of three and 12 — without the essential services they so desperately need. And the few beds for young children that the hospital is willing to maintain are slated to be merged into the hospital’s sister adolescent unit. As a result, a child in crisis who is as young as three could end up receiving their care on a floor with adolescents who are crisis and who are as old as 18 … a pairing that is unfair for everyone involved: children, parents, family members and care providers.
Attend the aforementioned hearing as a way of showing CHA and the Department of Public Health that children in crisis deserve specialized, quality care in an environment that is safe and geared to their age-specific needs.
