The State Senate included a provision in the Fiscal Year 2014 budget that would keep Taunton State Hospital open until at least June 30, 2014, instead of when the Mental Health Advisory Commission submits their report to the Legislature in December 2013, as indicated in the House of Representatives budget. This study will provide detailed information that the Legislature can use to make future funding and policy decisions. Therefore, it would be beneficial if the final report could be used as a resource while formulating the Fiscal Year 2015 budget and if no changes were made to our mental health system until that time.
Call your legislator today and ask him or her to support the Senate version of line item 5095-0015 so that future decisions can be based on the comprehensive study of our mental health system.
