Linked below is a story from earlier today regarding the governor’s first visit to North Adams since the crisis began over the illegal closure – and hopeful reopening – of North Adams Regional Hospital.
While we are pleased to finally see the governor in North Adams, we are concerned by his comments that it may take "days" to reopen the hospital’s ED. We are also concerned that he made no mention of the need to restore a full service hospital for those living in this embattled community. Opening the ED is only a first step; nothing more than a Band-Aide approach to resolving this crisis. What is needed is a real solution. What is needed is the total restoration of a full-service hospital for the North Adams community.
In the meantime, we are awaiting a press conference by Martha Coakley where we hope to get further news about today’s discussions by public officials who are trying to restore emergency services at the hospital.
