Join us for a Patient Safety Candlelight Vigil at the State House

Every patient deserves safe and effective care. Nurses advocate for this every day. Their voices are a powerful reminder that patient safety should be the top priority in health care.  Unfortunately, the Massachusetts hospital industry has lobbied for years against the kind of safe patient limits for nurses that studies show would reduce patient injuries, infections, medication errors and even death.

Last year, nurses succeeded in getting the state legislature to enact a law that established safe patient limits in intensive care units. Now we must continue the fight to include limits in emergency departments and every hospital unit. Our Patient Safety Act (S.1206/H.1958) would dramatically improve patient safety throughout the Massachusetts health care system by setting a safe limit on the number of patients assigned to a nurse at one time, while providing hospitals with the flexibility to adjust staffing based on the patients’ needs.

Join us in the fight for patient safety by attending a candlelight vigil on the steps of the State House. Tell your lawmakers that ALL patients in ALL hospital units deserve safe and effective care.
