HYANNIS, Mass. — After a marathon 10-hour negotiation session held on March 1, 2006, an agreement in principle was reached between the registered nurses and management of Cape Cod Hospital.
Specific details of the agreement will not be released to the media until the final wording of a tentative agreement has been approved by both parties and the rank and file membership have had the opportunity to review and discuss the pact, which should occur early next week.
The nurses’ union negotiating committee is pleased with the agreement as it addresses all key issues of concern to its members including provisions to improve staffing, prevent mandatory overtime and a resolution that will prevent the layoff of 60 registered nurses who work on weekends.
A date for a vote for ratification of the agreement will be held on March 20, 2006.
The agreement was reached on the day the contract was set to expire and averted the need for an informational picket, which had been scheduled for March 7.
