From the Massachusetts Nurse Newsletter
September 2009 Edition
The interim provisional council for the new national nurses union met in Minnesota on August 18. MNA President Beth Piknick and Board member Karen Higgins attended. The council adopted the affiliation/constitution documents as approved by the three organizations’ Boards for votes by their respective memberships. The MNA’s vote to approve affiliation will be held on Oct. 1. The Council also determined a name—the National Nurses United (NNU)—and planned for a founding convention December 7 and 8 in Scottsdale, Arizona pending affiliation approval by the respective organizations’ membership bodies. Minnesota hosted the provisional council meeting, which coincided with their bargaining unit summit. The chairs sent a "hello" to Massachusetts and said they are looking forward to working directly with the MNA in the years to come.
