Board of Nursing Advisory Revision to Ruling on Nurse Midwives as First Assistants at Cesarean Sections
Please note that based upon a review of various evidence-based info the Massachusetts BORN’s recently reconstituted Nursing Practice Advisory Panel has noted that in addition to incorporating the role of first assist during the surgical procedure of Cesarean Section, serving as first assist during tubal ligations and general gynecologic surgery is within the scope of practice of the Nurse Midwife who has achieved and maintained competency.
