Vinfen’s 4th Annual Moving Images Film Festival

Vinfen’s 4th Annual Moving Images Film Festival will be held on Saturday, April 16 from noon until 5:30 PM at the Stuart Street Playhouse, located in the heart of Boston’s Theatre District. The Festival is free and open to the public. Free parking is available at the Stuart Street garage attached to the Playhouse for attendees. Films by and about people with disabilities are being shown to raise awareness and help fight stigma.

Moving Images Film Schedule and Panel Discussions

Temple Grandin, the HBO award-winning film starring Claire Danes, Julia Ormond, Catherine O’Hara and David Strathairn will be screened. Temple Grandin is the story of a young woman’s perseverance and determination while struggling with the isolating challenges of autism at a time when it was still quite unknown. The film chronicles Temple’s early diagnosis; her turbulent growth and development during her school years and the enduring support she received as she becomes the nation’s leading expert on animal behavior.

When I’m Not Alone, the story of Sam Durbin who was born female but raised as a male by his father, experienced unspeakable abuse, never learned to read or write, and drifted in and out of institutions. Homeless and alone when he found Integrity House, Sam learned to read and write and advocate for himself and others living with disabilities.

Unlisted: A Story of Schizophrenia is a film made by Delaney Ruston, MD, about her journey as the daughter of a father living with paranoid schizophrenia. The film examines the nature of responsibility of parents and children, of physicians and patients, and of society and citizens towards those afflicted with severe mental illness.

Lively interactive panel discussions with the audience will be held after the films are screened.
