Hospital CEO compensation falls
In line with other reports that executive pay may be leveling off, CEOs at Massachusetts teaching hospitals witnessed lowered, although still respectable, compensation packages in 2009 compared to 2008, according to documents filed at the attorney general’s office, reports the Boston Globe.
For example, former Partners HealthCare CEO James Mongan received $2.1 million, including salary and bonus, compared to $3.6 million in 2008, which included a deferred retention payment. Gary Gottlieb, Partners’ current chief executive and president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, earned $1.6 million in 2009, equal to what he received in 2008. Massachusetts General President Peter Slavin earned $1.4 million in both 2009 and in 2008.
Other compensation from area hospitals showed equal or lowered compensation.
