The Occupy Boston campaign will get a boost from the state’s largest health care union, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the union announced Friday.
In an emailed statement, the union said members would join protesters in Dewey Square, between Boston’s Financial District and South Station, and would also provide resources to the campaign. The protest has targeted major corporations and financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS).
1199SEIU executive vice president Veronica Turner said her group, which represents 44,000 health care workers in Massachusetts, would "immediately begin dedicating resources, including medical and printing resources, to promote and sustain the growth of this important push for social and economic justice.”
The move follows a visit on Wednesday to the protest site by an estimated 300 unionized nurses with the Massachusetts Nurses Association.
