Management Refuses To Accept Safe Staffing Language
After being at the bargaining table for 15 months, the Registered Nurses of Cooley Dickinson Hospital continue to fight for safe staffing language in their contract. They are holding an informational picket on November 9 in order to alert the Greater Northampton Community of the unresolved issues in their contract negotiations. In response to an increase in patient assignments, nurses are calling for nurse staffing language as part of their contract. Management has stated they will not accept this language as an issue subject to grievance. The nurses know that enforceable contract language is the only way to guarantee the highest quality of patient care. Besides the inclusion of safe staffing language, they are fighting to keep their pension intact for themselves and for future nurses and want to include a successor clause which will secure their contract when a new owner takes over the hospital.
