Pact Provides Contractually Guaranteed Improvements in Staffing and Protection of Benefits
University Committee to Return to the Table on Monday
After 20 hours of negotiations with a federal mediator, we are pleased to report that the UMass Memorial/Hahnemann Committee has reached a tentative agreement with management on a new two-year contract that includes long-sought improvements in staffing with limits on nurse patient assignments and a commitment hire a significant number of nurses to improve patient care conditions at the facility, while also protecting our benefit package . With the agreement the notice to strike for Memorial/Hahnemann nurses has been lifted for May 23.
We are preparing a full copy of the tentative agreement and will be mailing that to all Memorial/Hahnemann member, and a date for an open meeting and ratification vote is being scheduled. To learn specifics of the agreement, contact a committee member.

The University committee is has yet to reach an agreement and is scheduled to resume negotiations on Monday with the federal mediator. The strike notice for the University nurses is still in effect for May 23.
