Brigham & Women’s Hospital Nurses Contract Negotiation Mid-Day Update
Talks Continue, Nurses Issue Statement About Hospital’s Dangerous Decision to Call for Lockout with Ill-Prepared Mercenary Nurses
From the 17-member BWH nurse bargaining committee:
“We are in negotiations now and are preparing to update the public as soon as possible. It is our understanding that Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Partners HealthCare are having a press conference this afternoon. The hospital will likely detail its plans to temporarily replace 3,300 Brigham nurses with a few hundred mercenary nurses who do not have the Brigham nurses’ high-level of training and specialization.
“Brigham nurses would like the public to know that we are concerned utmost with the safety of our patients. That is why Brigham nurses voted overwhelmingly for a 24-hour strike starting Monday morning. It is solely the hospital’s decision to jeopardize safe patient care with a subsequent four-day lockout. Nurses are ready to return to caring for our patients Tuesday morning. We are fighting for our patients at the bargaining table. Brigham nurses want to protect the Brigham Way of excellent and safe patient care.”
