BOSTON – The registered nurses of Tufts Medical Center, who are now in the midst of the second day of a forced lock out by the hospital, will be visited by several local elected leaders during their daily a.m. rally tomorrow morning, July 15.

• Congressman Stephen Lynch
• Congressman Michael E. Capuano
• Representative Denise Garlick
“We are honored to have their support,” said Barbara Tiller, RN and co-chair of the nurses’ bargaining unit, of the four elected leaders who will attend tomorrow’s rally. “Each understands the work we do on behalf of their constituents, our patients. And they truly know what we’re fighting for: The safety of our patients and the future of our nursing practice at Tufts.”

Background
Tufts nurses began an historic one-day strike Wednesday morning as Tufts management failed to agree to a fair settlement that ensures patients have the highly skilled nursing care they deserve. The strike – the first by nurses in Boston in 30 years and largest nurses’ strike in Massachusetts history – ended at 6:59 a.m. on July 13. Tufts management then began locking out nurses following the 24-hour strike for an additional four days, bringing in mercenary replacement nurses who do not know Tufts, patients, staff, systems, culture, or community.
