DPH to Hold Public Hearing on Closure of Falmouth Hospital Maternity Unit on Thursday May 28 at 6 pm
The DPH will hold its required public hearing – a telephone hearing – on the closure of the maternity unit at Falmouth Hospital this Thursday, May 28 at 6PM. The hearing is required under law to determine if this service is an essential service for the Cape and Island community and the Southeast region as a whole. The MNA opposed Cape Cod Healthcare’s decision to close this service, as the loss of this service could result in longer waits and extended travel times for expectant mothers to access a maternity unit for a safe delivery. It follows the recent closure of maternity services at Morton Hospital in Taunton and at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, which has resulted in the March of Dimes classifying this region of the state as a “maternity desert” for the lack of access to adequate obstetrical care.
We encourage all concerned residents and caregivers who oppose this closing to call into the number below to share your concerns with the DPH.
