MNA BOARD OF DIRECTORS HIGHLIGHTS

- Mary McElligott, a nurse at St. Elizabeth’s, joined the meeting to share information about the Nurses Honor Guard and to ask the MNA to support and advertise. The Nurses Honor Guard pays tribute to nurses at the time of their death by performing the Nightingale Tribute at the funeral or memorial service. Dressed in the traditional white uniform, complete with cape and cap, this service is similar to a military tribute and officially releases the nurse from their nursing duties. The BOD voted to support.
- The BOD approved a $5,000 donation to United Mine Workers of America for the striking workers at Warrior Met Coal in Alabama.
- The BOD endorsed Shannon Liss-Riordan in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s race. They also endorsed U.S. Congressmen Keating, Lynch and McGovern for their upcoming re-election campaigns.
- In Connecticut, the BOD endorsed Congressman Joe Courtney. During the St. Vincent’s strike he assisted our nurses in gaining access to COBRA benefits.
- The BOD voted to support the inclusion of Home Care Environment in the next edition of the Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Tool Kit.
- The fiscal 2023 budget was reviewed and approved by the BOD. Monies from the MNA 2025 line item were moved to restore $2 million to the strike fund and the remaining roughly $3 million was moved to operating reserves. The BOD agreed to review MNA 2025 discussion items before the end of the fiscal year for feasibility to move more items forward.
- After nine months of negotiations and a strike authorization vote, the nurses at Morton reached a tentative agreement!
- UMass Memorial nurses have negotiated a remarkable increase in wage. Their priority was a contract with no concessions and significant improvements in wages and in just a few short weeks of back and forth with management they were able to achieve an agreement.
- Cooley Dickinson nurses also reached an agreement. Negotiations continue Lawrence General, Cambridge Health Alliance and Milford for a first contract.
- The NLRB has decided that there is not sufficient Community of Interest for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute nurses at the Merrimack Valley site to join the existing bargaining unit, so they will vote to join the MNA as their own bargaining unit. Thank you, MNA Board of Directors
